A quick overview will show that they are both in the convertible category while the California is a true convertible and the 458 is not. The California only has three safety features; stability control, tire pressure monitoring and traction control. The Ferrari 458 has many more safety features such as daytime running lights, both driver and passenger airbags, an engine immobilizer, side airbags as well as stability control, tire pressure monitoring and traction control.

Overall when you look at it the Ferrari California is an inferior model when compared to the Ferrari 458. One of the drawbacks for the Ferrari 458 however is it is a two passenger car while the California is a four passenger automobile.
